A memorial service will be held at South Ridge school on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM and a luncheon will follow the service. A private burial will take place at a later date
Zachary Nicholas Johnson passed away on October 29th, 2023, at the age of 25. Zach was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on November 19, 1997, the youngest of three children born to Brent and Luanne (Dass) Johnson. Zach grew up in Culver, Minnesota, and graduated from South Ridge High School in 2016. Zach earned a degree in Environmental Science from Fond du Lac Community College and was eager to spend his career and lifetime in the outdoors. Zach found comfort in nature and took pride in being an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He delighted in sharing his love of the outdoors with his family and friends.
Zach developed a passion for sports early in life and earned recognition as a multi-sport athlete for South Ridge High School. Zach combined his love for sports and dedication to helping others through serving the Cloquet community as a baseball coach, and coaching football alongside his father at South Ridge. Zach’s abilities as an athlete and an inspirational mentor earned him the respect of young athletes and families in his community.
Zach’s unforgettable smile and compassion for those around him brought people together and distinguished him as an especially kind, wise soul. Zach loved his family, and was proud to call his brother, Josh and sister, Alyssa his very best friends. Zach’s dedication to taking care of his family and friends will serve as an enduring lesson in empathy, integrity, and compassion.
Zach was preceded in death by grandparents Kathleen Johnson, Ray and Esther Dass, uncles Donald Dass and Charles Lind, and cousin Kristin (Lind) Graehling. Zach is survived by his parents Brent and Luanne, siblings Joshua and Alyssa (Grant Sega), Grandfather Dennis Johnson, uncles Wade (Kim) Johnson, Craig Johnson (Mindy Herrrick), Bradley Dass, aunts Joanne Lind (Bob Bok) Lori (Scott) Johnson, Zane Bail, and Sandra Dass, many loving cousins, countless friends, and his beloved cat Felix.
