Martin (Marty) Clark, 74, of Duluth, formerly of Grand Marais, died after a brief battle with cancer Wednesday, October 7, 2015. He was at home surrounded by his family and died peacefully.

Marty grew up on the Gunflint trail. His family owned two resorts: Rockwood Lodge and Borderland Lodge.

Marty was a contractor who owned and operated Gunflint Construction Company in Grand Marais. In 1977, Marty moved to Duluth and married Bobbe. He then began a new career, operating Jean Duluth Auto Salvage. Marty also built their beautiful home on Island Lake, continuing his passion for building up until this very fall.

He was happy restoring old cars and working with his hands. Marty also enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved classic cars. While he had a gruff exterior, he had a tender heart.

He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Ann (Keller) Clark, sister Marsha Kirk, and step-son Cory Johnson.

Marty is survived by his wife Roberta (Bobbe), daughter Julie Hannahs, step-daughter Carrie Winningham, step-son Scott Gatzke, step-daughter Laurie Schiller, grandchildren Matthew, Jacob, and Danielle Hannahs, Martin Frost, Steve Schiller, Lindsay Schiller, Ian Fitton, Mark Pearson and extended family and friends.

At Marty’s request, no formal service will be held. There will be a gathering of family and friends over the weekend at Marty’s house in his honor.
