We will be having a Celebration of life at the Jacobson Community Center at 11am on September 17th, 2022.  Please bring happy memories and pictures to share with family and friends of Karen.  Lunch will be served after.

Karen Mlaker, loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 3rd 2022.

Karen was born on August 20th, 1940 in Black Duck Minnesota to Helen and Carl Nering.  She graduated from Hill City School in 1958 and received her Bachelor’s degree for Education in 1963 from Bemidji University in Bemidji Minnesota.

Karen met her husband Ed in college in Bemidji and they were married July 13th, 1963.  They moved back to Jacobson in 1969 to the old Fero Farm after Ed’s brother Jack died serving his country in Vietnam.  Together Karen and Ed farmed, taught school and raised their two daughters Marie and Lisa.

Karen returned once again to Hill City School to teach in 1971.  She substitute taught until Lisa started school, then she taught full time.  Her favorite grades were Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades.  Karen retired in 2005.

Once Karen retired, she enjoyed being involved in the community, she was on the Jacobson Community Center board, Civic Club secretary, TRIAD, Jacobson book club, Alpha Delta Kappa and Pizza Club.   She joined others from Jacobson to exercise at the Jacobson Community Center “Bone Builders” 3 days a week, which was later changed to Sail.  Karen enjoyed watching the birds at the feeders and taking pictures of the many birds.  She had a large collection of owls that she added to over the years.

Karen was preceded in death by her Parents Helen & Carl, Brother-in-law Carson, Sister-in-law Betty Mae, Ed’s Parents Joe, Fran and step-father Joe.

Karen is survived by her husband Ed, her two children Marie and Lisa(Pat), her sister Judy and Brother-in-law Dan, Sister-in-law Kathy and her grandchildren Curtis(Brittney), Nicole(Alex) and Great Grandchildren Aiden, Natalie and Wesley.   Karen is also survived by 6 Nieces and Nephews – Jeff(Wendy), Kay, Earl(Michelle, Carson and Dayne), Tracy(Russ), Scott, Sheila(Chris, Tia)
