Charles William Herman, 87, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2020. Charlie was born December 8, 1932 in Waukegan, Illinois.

As a child, he learned the value of hard work and it stuck with him his entire life. He graduated from Proctor High School. He met his wife Bea in Superior, Wisconsin while hanging out with his friends. They married January 24, 1953 and had just shy of 67 years together. Charlie was a self taught Project Engineer and worked for Clyde Iron, National Iron and Potlatch, retiring after 28 years there in 1994. He was proud of his knowledge and ability in his profession.

Family and friends were very important to him. He enjoyed holidays, get togethers and visiting. He made sure his grand and great grandchildren knew how special they were and didn’t miss a chance to teach them life skills. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. His meticulous ways were reflected in his home, yard, and all he owned.

Charlie loved to ride his motorcycle, traveling around the country with Bea, family and friends. In his retirement, he volunteered with the Duluth Honor Guard for eight years. He also spent time doing woodworking at the Evergreen Senior Center tinkering with projects.

He was preceded in death by; daughter Kimberly; and brother Don.

Charlie is survived by; loving wife, Bea; sons Marty (Shelley) Herman, Ken Herman, daughter Denise (Don) Nemec; grandchildren Jason (Patti) Debeltz, Nichole Koivisto, Lisa Herman; great-grandchildren, Sam Koivisto, Halley Miller, Reece Lamphier; brothers Ken, Larry, and sister Candy.
