In Remembrance

Thomas S. Johnson, 71, Superior, died Thursday, August 20, 2015, in the arms of his loving family.

 
Tom grew up in Duluth, MN. He joined the Navy at 17 years old and served for 4 years on the USS Ticonderoga with his life-long friend Jim Childs. In 1966 he married the love of his life Judith K. Robinson. In 1978 they moved to Esko, MN where they raised their family. He held many jobs over the years however he retired from Mystic Lake Casino where he was a 21 dealer. After retirement, Tom and Judy managed the Manning Motel in Superior, WI for 10 years.
Tom’s life was devoted to his family and friends and helping others in need. Tom’s devotion to children was particularly special. In Tom, every child could find a best friend.

 
He was preceded in death by infant son, Vincent, infant grandson Kyle Simon, parents Martin and Margurete (Schwalen) Johnson, siblings Vincent, Raymond, Janith Kathan, Adeline Leisure, and infant twins David and Dorothy.
Tom is survived by Judy, his loving wife of 49 years, son Tom (Dawn) Johnson, daughter Lisa (Reid) Welhaven, grandchildren; Lacey (Kevin) Johnson, Brett Lisson, Katlynn Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Derek Simon, Riley and Reegan Welhaven, great-grandchild Lula Johnson, his “other daughter” Michelle Johnson. He is also survived by siblings Marge Johnson, Cathy (Jarl) Carlson, Marty (Lynn) Johnson and all of his large extended family with whom special, life-long connections were made.

 
Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2022 E 2nd St., Superior, WI, with Rev. Kathy Nelson officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to service. Military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard, services by Affordable Cremation & Burial, 218-491-7011, affordableduluth.com.
