The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 8th, at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 1410 Baxter Avenue, Superior, Wisconsin, with Father Andrew Ricci officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Sheryl loved pastels and color. In her honor, please wear something colorful to her funeral. Her favorite color was yellow.

Sheryl Ann Petrey, age 54, of Superior, Wisconsin, passed away on July 1, 2024, at the Franciscan Health Center on Park Point in Duluth, Minnesota.

Born on March 9, 1970, to Harold and Mary “Jean” (Marincel) Lehto, Sheryl grew up in Superior and graduated from Superior High School in 1988. She married Joseph Petrey in 1991. She was a WITC graduate and worked for the Catholic Diocese of Superior for 30 years.

Sheryl was preceded in death by her husband Joseph and her mother Jean. She is survived by her sons Justin, Tyler (Stephanie), and Alex; granddaughter Josie and another grandchild due in August; father Harold Lehto (Barbara Nobens); sister Sandra (Glen) Bayless; brother Brian (Tammy) Lehto; beloved dog Teddy; and many other family members and friends.

Sheryl’s journey was marked by her courageous battle with alcoholism, a struggle she faced with determination and resilience. Though she ultimately lost this battle, her fight and moments of triumph serve as a powerful reminder of the human spirit’s enduring strength. Her story underscores the profound challenges of addiction and the importance of compassion and support for those who face similar battles.

Describing herself as having a strong will and a great sense of humor, Sheryl was known for her unwavering love for her family and friends. In her sobriety, she was a devoted mother who always put her children’s needs above her own. Sheryl was also a wonderful friend and listener and was always there for those who needed her. Her warmth, laughter, and the fierce love she had for those around her will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Sheryl’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her dear friend Kim Nylander for her compassionate care. They also wish to thank Essentia Health Hospice Care for providing comfort and support during her final days. Additionally, they are deeply appreciative of Bre from Superior Treatment Center for her kindness, dedication, and unwavering support as an addiction counselor.
