Scott William Redenbaugh
Scott William Redenbaugh passed away at age 62 on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Scott was born June 18, 1962 to William (Bill) and Kathleen (Kathy) Redenbaugh in Duluth, MN.
Scott loved the Lord with all his heart, mind, soul, and strength. He had deep conviction in his beliefs and lived them out each day. He was deeply generous with his time and talents, always up to help someone with an issue with their car or house. He fed the hungry. When volunteering, he was often the first to show up and the last to leave, a true servant leader. He was an active member of the Hermantown Community Church.
His 37-year marriage to Amy is an example of love and faithfulness. He was a devoted dad to his 3 daughters, Lindsey, Lexy, and Livia, always willing to drop everything to drive one of them to a school activity or appointment during their childhoods or make a stop by to fix something in their homes in adulthood. He loved to spend time with family, doing nothing much at all, cracking jokes, and being together.
Besides his own girls, he loved babies and kids, and they loved him. Over the years, he cared for many in church nurseries and family functions. He especially received much joy watching his twin great-nephews Cole and Carson over the last two years.
He spent 40 years of his life providing for his family, working at the Salvation Army. He was hard-working, methodical, and silly with co-workers. He would often remind his girls to work as if working for the Lord (Colossians 3:23-24) and he truly lived that out, going above and beyond expectations. He found each new project to be a puzzle and he wouldn’t stop until he solved them.
In fact, he was amazing at all different kinds of puzzles and loved jigsaws, sudoku, and crosswords. Over the years, he also loved to hunt for partridge and deer with his father and family, root for the MN Vikings no matter how terribly they were doing, and ride motorcycles with the Christian Motorcycle Association.
He received his ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) diagnosis in April of 2021. The horrific illness deteriorates muscle and it eventually took away his ability to speak, eat, and breathe. The diagnosis was devastating and difficult, but he continued to fight each day, learning how to use each new tool available and an impressive amount of sign language in order to communicate. He held on through his progression, continuing to make plans and provide for his family even through his last days. We celebrate that he is now with Jesus in heaven, healed and whole again.
He is survived by his wife Amy, daughters Lindsey (Jackson), Lexy, and Livia, siblings Cheryl Nelson, Kim Koralia, Todd (Darcy) Redenbaugh, Jill (Sean) Murray, and Rochelle Wick, Step-Mother Bunny Redenbaugh, Sister-in-law Cindy Helmer, Nephew Gavin Helmer and Great Nephews Cole and Carson Helmer, and many more nieces, nephews, other family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his father William Redenbaugh, mother Kathy Redenbaugh, and brother-in-laws Charlie Helmer and Tim Nelson.
Many amazing people cared for him during his journey. Thank you especially to the ALS Association, Essentia Hospice team, Solvay Hospice house staff, and Ecumen caregivers.
