Obituary: Robert John Shaw

Bob Shaw, a dedicated educator and passionate advocate for science, passed away peacefully on Friday July 5th at the age of 75. His unwavering commitment to teaching and his profound love for scientific exploration touched the lives of countless students and colleagues throughout his career..His dynamic teaching style left an indelible mark on the academic community which led to him receiving multiple recognitions and awards.

Born in Austin MN on March 25th 1949, Bob discovered his lifelong passion for science at a young age. He earned his Bachelor of  Science degree  in  Chemistry and Biology education at Mankato State University. He later received his Masters in Educational Leadership from Southwest State University.

Beyond the classroom, Bob was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; their three children, Nicole Tillma (Doug), Jessica Larsen (Chris) and John Shaw (Ciara); and his cherished grandchildren, Travis and Jason Tillma, Maren, Kohin and Lachlan Larsen and Porter Shaw. He found immense joy in family gatherings, where he shared his enthusiasm for the natural world and instilled in his grandchildren a curiosity about the world around them.

Outside of his career, Bob enjoyed camping, fishing, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, nature preservation, volunteering, birding, traveling, and cooking.

Bob was known for his kind-hearted nature, generosity  and willingness to help others. His family and friends will remember  him fondly for his desire to connect, his selflessness, humor, humility, and intellect.

Bob cherished all of the time, conversations, support, and closure that the past 9 months provided him. He has requested that there be no funeral services, as he was ever so grateful for the celebration of life while he was living.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Jay C Hormel Nature Center in Austin Minnesota.
