Robert C. Brown passed away this week in St. Luke’s Hospital Intensive Care Unit due to Overwhelming Sepsis and Respiratory Failure due to Acute Covid.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne Brown and her family; his daughters Marn Louise Massar (Tracy) and Lauralyn Brown Kliewer (John); his grandchildren Alina Nguyen (Shelby), Jace Massar, Haisley Massar, Helen Kliewer, Paul Kliewer, Marti Kliewer; great grandchild Dominik Johnson; nephews Doug Kelley (Ann), Tom Kelley (Lynn); cousin Merrily Jones; and a large, loving family.  He was predeceased by his beautiful son, Patrick Robert Brown.
Bob was born in 1935 to Mae Brown, a registered nurse, and Chester Brown, a mechanic, in Bloomington, MN.  He graduated from high school in Bloomington, served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1955-1957, graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1960 and the University of Minnesota School of Law in 1963.  He moved to Duluth and was absolutely thrilled to live in such a beautiful place, expressing that gratitude daily.  He served the local court system for 36 years, a majority of that time spent as the Examiner of Titles for St. Louis County, retiring in 2000.  He taught Business Law at UMD, played the clarinet in multiple community bands, fly fished, built a remote cabin in what is now Voyageurs National Park with his dad, built paddles and cedar strip canoes with his close friend Dr. Greg Mason, and was just an all-round adventurer his entire life.  But it gets better – Bob loved people – so many people.  From newborn babies to older people and, literally, everyone in between. And people loved him back.  He was affectionately and collectively thought of as our community’s Grandpa Bob.  “We lost Grandpa Bob”  is how the news has been related.
Cremation services were performed by Affordable Cremation and Burial in Duluth, MN.  Please check this website (I will update this obituary in the final line) for Memorial Service information as we are waiting to set a date so that Sue can attend.
Until that date is set, if you feel led, please send some meaningful photos of Dad or of yourself and Dad to goodmemorieswithbob@gmail.com.  Please include the names of the people in the photo, its date, and the location.
