Ricky Alan Schlafer
August 28, 1950 - May 16, 2022
A visitation will be held for Rick at the Son Life Church in Wrenshall on May 28th, 10am-12:30. A
prayer service and story sharing will start at 12:30pm with lunch following.
Ricky “Rick” Schlafer, 71, of Wrenshall passed away peacefully at St. Lukes Hospital in
Duluth May 16th, 2022. Rick was born August 28th, 1950 to Lloyd and Isabelle Schlafer.
Rick graduated from Wrenshall High School in 1968.
He worked 35 years in construction for JR Jensen. He also grew and sold cabbage to
the local community including many grocery stores in the area for over 40 years.
Rick was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He took
great pride in his garden and enjoyed sharing produce with family friends. One of his
greatest joys in life was spending time with his 3 grandchildren where he would take
them hunting, fishing, gardening, and helping with firewood.
He married Genie Merriman on May 17th, 1975.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents and brother Melvin.
Rick is survived by his wife Genie, sons Corey (Elizabeth) of Wrenshall, Justin of
Duluth, and grandchildren Andrew, Michael, and Isabelle.
