Rex Louis passed away Monday, December 5th 2022 peacefully at his home in Rutledge, MN with his loving wife Liz by his side. Rex was 71 years old. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was born in St. Croix Falls, MN. He then lived in the Minneapolis area most of his life.
In his early years, he worked at Pillsbury as a paid intern in 1968. A year later he graduated from Edison High School, and he was hired on as a junior draftsman for Pillsbury. Rex met Bob Williams there and was proud to know the first black man to play with the Lakers. Bob called Rex, “Louie the Lipper”. Rex later took jobs elsewhere as a draftsman and millwright apprentice. His final workplace was as a draftsman at Buhler in which he retired from in 2016.
Even in his retirement he kept busy. He was a true handyman. He was always available to help friends and neighbors. There was nothing he couldn’t do. Rex loved to have conversations and strong connections with people. He would chat up anyone who would listen to him – it’s a well known “Louis” trait. These gifts made him liked and loved by many. Rex cherished his family and close friends. Even in the end, he was thinking of others more than himself.
Rex is survived by his wife of 41 years, Liz (Edwards) Louis, son Chad Louis, grandsons Matthew and Mikel, and Walker. His sister Stacey Louis and brothers Gene Louis and David Louis, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Elsa (Jensen) Lundholm, father Robert Louis, brother Keith Louis, and son Cory Louis and grandson Logan.
Rex will be remembered for his desire to help anyone in need. His dry humor and ability to inundate you with his detailed expertise of drafting. He was incredibly smart in this way. He also leaves his friends and family with fond memories of their time together and the man he was. Rex was not just a good man, but a great man.
