A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date.
Michael “Mike” John Rust, 51, of Duluth, MN, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 23, 2020, surrounded by wilderness in a cabin on a lake.
Michael was born on January 7, 1969, in Minneapolis, MN and raised by Kathy and Wayne Swanson. He graduated from South St.Paul High School where he excelled in football, track & field, and weightlifting. Michael attended Bemidji State University on a scholarship for track & field and enjoyed a lengthy career as a gifted salesman with an impressive network of loyal customers. If you asked Michael, his greatest accomplishment wasn’t his athleticism or his career. It was being a father.
He was an enthusiastic fan of all sports, an avid fisherman, and a passionate cook who loved to entertain family and friends.
Michael is survived by daughter Tylin Rust, son Maysen Rust, mother Kathleen Swanson, stepfather Wayne Swanson, friend and mother of his children Connie Salgy, as well as numerous siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Those who knew him will remember him for his storytelling, love for 80s rock/old country, playful humor, infectious laugh, and his undying love for his children and family.
