In Remembrance

Mary Katherine Modec (68) of Duluth passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024 after a sudden decline in her health. She was born on June 1, 1955 in Virginia, MN to Joseph and Marian (Barnes) Modec. She grew up in Fayal Township and graduated from Eveleth High School. She spent most of her years living and working in Duluth.

Mary was strong willed and free spirited, always standing up for the underdog. She lived her life on her own terms and was always taking care of those around her. Dedicated to her family and friends, she enjoyed time spent traveling, working on her house and yard, hiking and being outdoors, and spoiling her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Daniel Good (Megan Barnes); grandchildren Evania, Owen, and Declan Good; great granddaughter, Noella Jeanetta; brother, Joseph Modec Jr.; sister, Melissa (Shawn) Modec-Murphy, numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends, Vicki Paulson and Julie Cullen. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of memorials, donations to the Superior Hiking Trail Association in Mary’s honor are preferred.
