In Remembrance

Margaret A. Evens, 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. She was born January 29, 1925, to Nancy and Elias Alberts in Duluth, Minnesota, the fifth of six children.

When she graduated from Central High School in 1942, with her four brothers in the service, she took a job as a department manager in the office of Marshall Welles Co. where she worked for a number of years. She also worked for the V.A. Dental Clinic and for 20 years as the office manager for M.D. Anesthesia Service, Ltd.

In 1946, she married her husband, William H. Evens. They enjoyed taking winter vacations to Jamaica, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. Margaret enjoyed reading, knitting, and her flower beds (playing in the dirt as she called it). She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved family get togethers and backyard barbeques. Margaret was a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church and served as their financial secretary for many years.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William H.; sister Edna Paul, brothers Emil, Fred, and William Alberts; and her parents.

Margaret is survived by her daughter Diana Spear of Duluth, son William Evens of St. Paul, grandson Nathan Evens of Duluth, brother Edward (Eve) Alberts of Arizona, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank St. Luke’s Home Hospice Care and the staff of 2W for their excellent care, compassion and support.

Memorial service with Rev. Hal Stoa officiating will be held 12:00 pm, Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church, 51st Ave. E. & Glenwood St., Duluth, MN.
