Loren “Pete” Wallace Peterson passed away on July 24th, 2023 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN after a 2½ year battle with cancer. While there is sadness, there is also rejoicing in a life well-lived and the knowledge of his faith in Christ.

Loren was born on October 8, 1940 in Fargo, ND to Maurice and Vivian (Rice) Peterson. In his childhood he lived in Detroit Lakes, MN and then the Fargo/Moorhead area. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1958. He attended Sioux Falls College in South Dakota and graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1962. He married Janet Jacobson in Sioux Falls on August 1, 1970. Loren served 14 years in the Air National Guard, reaching the rank of Captain.

Loren will be remembered as a numbers guy. His career, except for a four-year stint as the owner of Krantz Resort in Deer River, MN, was focused on school finance. He worked for the Sioux Falls, St. Cloud, Deer River, and Proctor School Districts. After “retiring” in 2000, he continued to share his finance skills through part-time work. He enjoyed working for ARRC (Arrowhead Regional Computing Consortium) and the City of Proctor. He finally fully retired at the age of 77.

Faith and Service were themes throughout Loren’s life. He became a believer in Jesus at a young age and used his gifts and abilities in the church in various ways. At Salem Covenant Church, where he was a member for 29 years, he filled the roles of church treasurer and financial secretary and served on the finance commission. Those who worked with Loren will remember him for his integrity, his work ethic, and his love of spreadsheets.

Loren found joy in spending time with his family and friends. He loved fishing, golfing, gardening and woodworking. He enjoyed traveling with Janet and would choose the “scenic route” over the interstate any day. Over the years, he visited almost all of the US states, but his favorite destinations were South Dakota and Germany, to visit his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents. He will be deeply missed by Janet, his wife of nearly 53 years; daughters Laurel (Peter) Olson and Sara (Dan) Hutchinson; grandchildren Jonah and Caleb Olson and Sydney, Elyse, and Evan Hutchinson; sister Carol (Titus) Evans, brother-in-law Allan Jacobson, sister-in-law Karen (Keith) Kinder, sister-in-law Myrlene Hamilton (Eric) Hess, and other extended family and friends who have been blessed by his life.

A celebration of life service will take place on Tuesday, August 8th at Salem Covenant Church. Visitation will begin at 4 pm. The service will be held at 5 pm with dinner following. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Solvay Hospice House for their exceptional care for Pete.
