A reflection on life, in Linnea’s own words:

“My family promised me that I wouldn’t have a boring obituary that reads like a resume, and I sure do hope they follow through on my wishes. Actually, I know they did because I have an amazing family. I have been blessed in that way and so many others. In fact, if there is one word that I could use to describe my life, it is this… blessed. Life is what you make of it, and I have chosen to make my life happy and full of love.

The most joy I have found in my life is being a mother. My happy place is in nature. I am a terrible singer and I am not afraid to admit it. I love to laugh. I love to read. I especially love to hike. My favorite season is fall. Best job? Working at a nonprofit or volunteering at a nonprofit (please do that!). I found my true love while volunteering at an event.

Rather than buy flowers for my celebration of life, would you please consider buying a meal for a homeless person? Better yet, a homeless family with kids. In addition, if you are struggling, I sure do hope someone shares with you today.

The rest is from my family…”

Our wonderful Linnea was born near Cincinnati on August 11, 1968, joining “favorite brother” Larry. They moved to Duluth when still young, but continued to spend joyful summers in Ohio on Shawnee Run Road with their grandparents and cousins. Linnea named her beloved dog Shawnee from that time. Linnea lived her life with passion and energy, with her dear Megan as the center of it all. Being Meg’s mom defined her and was her greatest source of joy and inspiration.

Throughout her life, Linnea contributed to others, whether through her work or her community involvement, including with U.S. Bank, Animal Allies, Lutheran Social Service, the Junior League and the Duluth Chamber. Linnea lived her life with laughter and humor. She was always full of mischief and fun, and Megan has inherited her sparkly eyes – so watch out!

Linnea’s spirit will continue through the lives of the many, many, people who loved her, including her family. Her beloved daughter Megan. Her true love and fiancé, Pat Mullen. Megan’s dad and Linnea’s dear friend, Craig Samborski. Her mom Jane. Linnea’s dad, always “Chuck” to Linnea and her friends, and his wife Linda, and Noah. Her favorite brother Larry, his wife Kim and their kids Ella, Lucy and Jasper. Her nephew Bryan, and her cousins, aunts, uncles, stepsisters and special friends.

In Linnea’s memory – live life. Give to others, especially those who are suffering. Admire wildflowers and sunsets. Hike a trail off the beaten path. Love where you live (especially if it is Duluth). And beyond all – love one another fully.

Special thank you to Linnea’s community of health care providers, in particular the amazing and compassionate staff at Solvay Hospice House.
