In Remembrance

Lawrence S. Caven (Larry), 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 12th at St. Luke’s Hospice.

Larry was born December 12, 1929, to George and Myrtle Caven.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Marion (Tippy) Caven, children Randy and Jill, parents George and Myrtle, sisters Catherine Yingling and Joann Otterblad.

Larry is survived by his children Rebecca (Brian) Bozelka, Leslie (Dave) Fasteen, Jay (Lori) Caven, Jan (Mike) Johnson, and Beth Caven; grandchildren Amanda, Olivia, Josh, Jordan, Taylor, Randi, Spencer, Max, Lukas, Molly, Emily and Abigale; great-grandchildren Piper, Sagan, Holden, Fletcher, Maverick, Theo, TJ, Camdyn; and brother John (Judy) Caven.

Larry must have been intimidating to strangers, with his tall stature and booming voice. Those who knew him, however, will tell you how generous and compassionate he was. He cared deeply about his family, the environment, his community.

Larry was an electrician by trade and served as the business manager for the electrical workers union IBEW local 242 for several years. He was very active in politics, volunteering, campaigning and supporting candidates that matched his ideals.

Larry was an artist. He enjoyed painting and sketching, but what he could craft with wood was always unique and beautiful. The cabin he built on Gunflint Lake is the grandest representation of his talents.

Larry loved fishing, working on his cabin, and teasing his children and grandchildren. His face lit up when one of the great grandchildren came for a visit. He will truly be missed.

A celebration of life f will be held for Tippy and Larry on Friday, August 19th beginning at 4:00pm at the Black Woods Bar and Grill, 2525 London Road in Duluth.
