Joseph Leslie Podvin, born April 19th, 1928, age 89, passed with peace and surrounded by love on Monday, June 19, 2017.

Joe is survived by his wife of 67 years, Florence “Punky” Podvin, of Cloquet, MN; his sister, Betty DeMenge, of Albuquerque, NM ; his 3 children, Mike (Julie) Podvin, Sandi Podvin, and Patti Kruger all of Cloquet, MN. He is preceded in death by his brother, Bill Podvin, of Lady Lake, FL; and his sister, Evelyn Saylor, of MN.

Joe is fondly remembered as Dad to his children, Grandpa to his 6 grandchildren, Joy (Jerome Himango) Podvin, Tim (Bethany Thompson) Trettel, Matt Podvin, Jamie (Robbie) Peacock, Tiffany Silker, and Jessica Swanson, and Papa to his 10 great grandchildren.

Joe was a Purple Heart, combat wounded Veteran, recipient and served in the Navy for a short time but was an extremely proud Marine where he fought in the Korean War as one of “The Chosin Few”.

He was well known as an Ironworker and would often proudly point out all the buildings he helped to construct and would always have a great story to tell.

Joe was a very talented man and was skilled in many things and he enjoyed teaching friends and family his knowledge. He also enjoyed fishing very much and for some reason was the only one that could ever attract “those darn farting mosquitoes” that only seemed to be around when he was. He also loved to dance with his wife, especially to Polka music. He spent life after retirement traveling all over with his wife in their motor home and coming home every summer with new adventure stories and unique gifts for the grand kids. He was a man of great humor and everyone that had the honor of meeting him instantly took a liking to him. He was always making his grandchildren and great grandchildren laugh and definitely taught them what true and unconditional love and devotion meant as his family was absolutely the most important thing in his life. His family and friends and Mable Mudguard and Pete Coleycole will always remember him as an honorable and loving man who was always good for a laugh.

A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 11:00 am on Monday, June 26th, 2017 at Queen of Peace Church in Cloquet, MN with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joseph Podvin’s life. The family would like to thank friends and family for all their support and love shown throughout Joe’s life.
