Joseph Charles Witte (“Joe” or “Chuck”)
Joseph Charles Witte, affectionately known as “Joe” or “Chuck,” passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 28, 2026, at the age of 92.
Joe graduated from St. Jean’s Catholic High School in 1953, where he developed a lifelong love of sports and excelled in basketball.
He proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 as a survey specialist with Battalion Battery C, spending much of his service in Europe.
After returning home, Joe attended Duluth Business University before beginning a 19-year career with the DM&IR Railroad. During this time, he met the love of his life, Carol Suech. Together they recently celebrated 67 wonderful years of marriage.
In 1972, Joe founded Joe Witte Sanitation Service. Through hard work and dedication, he built and operated the business until retiring in 1990 at the age of 56.
Joe treasured spending time with family, friends, and neighbors at their summer home on Eagle Lake in Cromwell. He was an avid sports fan who faithfully followed the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. Above all, Joe was deeply devoted to his Catholic faith, which guided him throughout his life.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; his children, Chris (Lynn), Todd (Beth), and Kirk (Tammy); his grandchildren, Derek, Chantalle (Mike Palke), Tyler (Maryssa), Emily, Alec, and Colton; and his great-grandchildren, Kaden, Bristol, Lilly, Lainey, and Everleigh.
A visitation will be held at St. James Church from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. A luncheon will follow the service at the American Legion in West Duluth.
Joe will be remembered for his strong work ethic, unwavering faith, love for his family, and the many friendships he cherished throughout his life. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and generosity will live on in all who knew and loved him.
