John Francis Holcomb died unexpectedly at home on Grand Lake February 23, 2022. Born in Muskegon, MI, in 1941 to Marguerite Drabinski (later Holcomb) and Eugene Drabinski, he graduated from Muskegon High School, then went on to earn a B.S. in Chemistry at Northwestern University. After earning his M.D. degree at the University of Michigan, he completed an internship and one year of residency at Wayne County General Hospital in Eloise, MI, then served two years as a Navy doctor at Parris Island Marine Corps Training Depot. He then completed a two-year fellowship in internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Looking for a clinic practice, he decided on the Duluth Clinic and practiced as an internist with Essentia for 39 years until his retirement in 2013. Final years included winter stays in Cape Coral, Florida.

He was an avid tennis player, pedal-kayaker, recumbent biker, and lap swimmer. He is greatly missed by his wife, Elizabeth (Betsy) Holcomb, of 59 years; son Dr. Todd Holcomb (Cammie) of Waconia, MN; daughter Bridget Holcomb of Duluth; grandchildren Connor Holcomb, Keifer Holcomb, Chase Holcomb and Chloe Holcomb, all of Waconia, MN; sisters Joyce Filius of York, PA; and June Holcomb of Tucson, AZ.

At his wish, there will be no service. Memorial gifts may be made to Sax-Zim Bog, 8793 Owl Ave, Meadowlands, MN 55765.
