James (Jim) Peter Henriques, 74 1/2 years old, of Carlton, MN passed away on November 5, 2021 in St. Luke’s Hospital. Jim was a fierce warrior fighting kidney disease, several cancers, strokes, emphysema, COPD, and diabetes. He succumbed to his battles surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.

Jim was born in Manhattan, NY to Harold J. and Helen (Lillback) Henriques on April 5, 1947.  He was raised in Elmont, Long Island. He attended New Paltz University in upstate New York.  After he graduated, he studied at the University of Minnesota, Duluth under well known potter Glenn Nelson. Seeking adventure, Jim went north to The Pas, Manitoba and taught art at the public schools and at the local community college. He married Mary Lee Talarico on July 22, 1972.  During his years in Canada, he took two years off of teaching to study advanced pottery at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon. After leaving The Pas in 1978, he moved to Carlton, MN and taught art at Wrenshall School and Carlton High School. In the mid-1980’s, Jim left teaching to become a full time potter and attend many juried art fairs and shows in the Upper and Central Midwest. He continued to pot until forced into retirement by a severe stroke, preventing him from continuing his art.

Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Joe F. Talarico and Alyce Nelson Talarico Graves, brother-in-law Roger L. Maher and aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife and daughters Michelle E. Henriques and Megan (Aaron) Tschida, grandchildren Lydia and Hayden, sister Rachel (Roger Reep) Henriques-Reep, sister-in-law Betty Jo (Roger L.) Maher, and brother-in-law Michael J. (Ricardo Suarez Talarico) Talarico and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
