Jeffrey A. Swanson (Jeff), 76, of Duluth passed away in the comfort of his home on
Monday October 28th, 2024, from Small Cell Lung Cancer. Jeff was born in Duluth, MN
on February 11th, 1948, to Arnold and Wilberta Swanson. His formative years were
spent growing up in Denver, CO, where he developed an awe of the mountains and a
love for the outdoors. He returned to Duluth where he met and married his true love,
Karen Ulrich. They were married on May 17th, 1969, and raised three beloved children
together. He was a chef by trade, and spent many years working in that industry. But his
most valued passions were his self-taught hobbies that he shared with his family and
community. He was a skilled woodworker, photographer, guitarist, and an avid nordic
skier. He loved road trips with his wife and simple joys like feeding the chickadees and
chipmunks in the backyard. It can’t be left out that many cats have brought him joy over
the years and had a special place in his heart. And, like a true northern Minnesotan, he
was a weather junkie. Jeff was a parishioner of Salem Lutheran Church in Hermantown,
MN, where he was a valued member of the contemporary music team, playing his
acoustic guitar on Sunday mornings for many years. Jeff is preceded in death by his
parents, his brother Wil, and his beloved Aunt Joyce and Uncle Bob. He is survived by
his wife Karen, children Tim Swanson, Amy Swan (Zach), Sara Givand (Matt), and
grandchildren Katherine, Sam (Whitney), Aliyah, Micah and Ari.
