In Remembrance

Janis Mae Dowell, 6/12/36 died peacefully in her sleep on 9/24/22. Janis grew up in Grand Rapids, MN and spent most of her life in Duluth, MN. She volunteered for many organizations: Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Anoka State Hospital, Lighthouse for the Blind, The Depot, Range Women’s Advocates for 5 years, Program for the Victims of Sexual Assault for 10 years, and the Damiano Clothing Exchange. Jan graduated from Fond Du Lac Community College in 1995. She was the secretary and Board Member of the Blind Outdoor Leisure Development (BOLD) for 20 years. In addition, she facilitated 2 support groups out of her home for 13 years. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, crafts, and puzzles.

She is survived by her children; Patti, Emily, Jodell (Sara) Wright and Clifford (Tara) Guss. Her grandchildren; Jennifer (Lara) Eisenberg, Rachel (Mike) Herion, Colin (April) Wiita, Miles Erickson-Wright, and Clifford Jr and Kaley Guss. Her great grandchildren; Isaiah, Maria, and Lauren Wiita. Her sisters; JoAnn Carter, Jean Ann Basturk, Juel Sabot, and Deb Dowell.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Emily and Charles Dowell, brothers; Jack and Jim Dowell; nephew Jerry Wayne Dowell. Her partners; Ray Niemi, Clarence Sandnas, Tom Blackmore, James Guss, and Marshall Wright.

A heartfelt Thank you to the Benedictine Health Center and St Croix Hospice for their phenomenal care of our Mother.

There will be a celebration of life in June 2023. She will be sadly missed.
