Janeen (Bauer) Peters, 57, died by suicide on November 11, 2018 after a long and courageous struggle with the illness of depression. She was born June 8, 1961 in LaCrosse, WI to Ken and Eileen (Uselmann) Bauer. She grew up on a farm in Beaver Dam, WI. She excelled in sports in high school and college, including as pitcher of a League Championship fast-pitch softball team in 1984. She received a BA in Journalism from UW-Madison and a Master of Divinity from Luther Seminary in Saint Paul, MN.  She was a Church Administrator at Saint Paul Reformation Lutheran Church, Saint Paul, MN. Work has included Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at the State Hospital in Jamestown, ND and most recently in 2017-18 as a Chaplain Resident at Mayo Clinics and Health Services in Eau Claire, WI. She lived in St. Paul most of her adult life.  She was married to Rev. Mark Peters and will be remembered as a loving wife of 33 years and devoted mother of their adopted sons, Noah and Alek. Nurturing their education and way in the world was her proudest achievement and lasting legacy.

Janeen enjoyed hiking, kayaking, fishing, gardening, scrapbooking, camping and being in nature – especially with winged creatures, pollinators, and raptors. Janeen was a rogue gardener who collected and dispersed native seeds, especially milkweed. For many years she played, taught, and planned events at the Women’s Drum Center in Saint Paul. Janeen frequently performed with the musical ensemble DrumHeart, which included many drum types and styles of drumming and percussion from around the world. She was passionate about attending music festivals.

Janeen is preceded in death by her mother Eileen; her in-laws, Hank and Jean Peters; and her brother-in-law Kurt Peters.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Mark Peters; two sons, Noah and Alek; father, Ken Bauer; siblings Jennifer (Dean) Miller, John (Wendy) Bauer, Jill Bauer and Joy Lobeck; aunts, uncles, many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 29, 2018, with Bishop Tom Aitkin and Rev Anita Hill at Concordia Lutheran Church, 2501 Woodland Ave., Duluth. There will be a time to greet friends one hour prior to the service and at a reception to follow. Private burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery in Madison, WI in early July. In lieu of flowers, a memorial college education fund has been established for Noah and Alek. Make checks payable to Mark Peters and write “College Fund” in the memo line.
