Irene Dorothy (Price) Peters, 90, of Duluth, died peacefully Sunday (Mother’s Day) May 11, 2014 at Benedictine Health Center in Duluth.

 She was born February 22, 1924 to Guy and Doris (Zwicki) Price in Willow River, Minn.

 Irene was the 12th of 18 children and her mother died on Christmas Day while the two of them were coming home from Church when she was just 11 years old. She had to quit school to help her sister Stella raise their younger siblings.

 She married Ivan Peters on Sept. 27, 1941. They met at a local dance when he told her she was the best-looking girl there. Together they had four sons. Irene was a home-maker and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

 Being raised on a farm taught her how to be frugal and keep life simple which are the are the rules she followed all her life.

 Irene was always a very religious person who never missed Church and spent a good part of her quiet evenings praying for her friends and relatives. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, and lived in the same house for the past 62 years.

 She was dedicated to her husband and her children even as she got older. She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan in 2003 after 61 years of marriage, plus six sisters and eight brothers.

 Irene is survived by her four sons, Dennis (Bev) of Duluth, Donald of Cartersville, Georgia, David (Kathy) of Duluth, Douglas of Andover, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, Martin (Regina) Price and two sisters, Bernice Scott and Mary Ann Baser.

A special “Thank You” from the family to Joanne and Dan Marnich, who befriended, adopted, and drove Irene to Church and did errands for her for the past 10 years.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am Saturday May 17, 2014 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Gary. Fr. Jon Wild officiating, internment at Oneota Cemetery, services by Affordable Cremation & Burial, 491-7011, affordableduluth.com
