Henry was born the youngest of 7 kids to Gust and Amanda Polo on January 11th 1930 at home.  He attended elementary school in Halden and graduated from Floodwood High School in 1948.  He met and married Joanne Carlson in 1954. They had three children and made Floodwood their home.

Henry was a Korean War Veteran and was very patriotic. Proud of his military service, he displayed the 7th infantry flag in his yard. After working several jobs, he started employment at Blandin Paper Company in Grand Rapids in 1964, a job he held until retirement in 1992.

Henry was an accomplished carpenter and handyman. One of his proudest accomplishments was erecting a log cabin “Hunting Shack” from the trees he harvested from the hunting property. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, being in the woods and bowling. Later years he and Joanne enjoyed their summers at Trout Lake. Henry (fondly known in the area as Itchy) was active in the VFW, Lions, and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed golf into his 90’s. He was a terrific dancer and was the life of the party.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Brothers: John, Enio, George, Edward. Sisters: Matilda and Olga. He is survived and missed by his wife of 70 plus years, Joanne. Sons John (Mae) Polo, James (Donna desc.) Polo and daughter Jodi (John) Beswick. Grandson Joe (Kristin) Polo. Great granddaughters Ailsa and Calla Polo. He was also Grandpa to several bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren. Uncle to several nieces and nephews. And had countless friends.
