In Remembrance

Harland Peter Anderson, 77, passed away peacefully April 4th, 2023 at the Barross Cottage in Two Harbors from cancer. 

Harland was born February 10th, 1946 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Clyde and Inga Anderson. Harland grew up on the North Shore in Knife River, and attended school in both Knife River and Two Harbors. Harland worked various jobs throughout his life and retired in 1999 from working 16 years for the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway. Harland married the love of his life Susan Jean Soderberg on February 14th, 1995. 

Throughout his life, Harland loved the outdoors and camping, especially in Colorado and the Lake Superior area. He was an avid fly fisherman in his youth and was good at it, usually taking home fish for dinner and for making fish cakes. He enjoyed taking road trips both short and long with good music and his bride, Susan. He liked working with wood and making things with his hands such as carving diamond willow into walking sticks and lamps. 

In addition, he enjoyed spending time landscaping his childhood home in Knife River. He could be found sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee, looking out at the yard he created, complete with a wood archway covered with Engleman Ivy, red-leaved King Maples, various other trees and flowering shrubs. 

Harland was a wonderful pet owner. He loved all his dogs, enjoying long walks with them along Knife River and planting remembrance trees when they passed.

Harland always made his friends and family feel welcome and enjoyed visiting with them sitting around the kitchen table or a wood fire in the back yard.

Harland is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Inga Anderson, and his wife Susan Anderson.

Harland is survived in death by his son Jarod Anderson, son Andrew Salus, step-son Roger Soderberg (Salina), and grandchildren Kelly, Sammi Jo, Haley, Chais, and Russel.

Harland is loved and will be greatly missed.
