A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 6:00 pm, Thursday, May 9, with visitation one hour prior at Cathedral Christ the King, 1410 Baxter Ave, Superior, WI. A private inurnment will take place at a later date.
Gary Nelson, age 72, of Maple, WI, died April 25, 2019 following a two and a half year battle with cancer. He was born to Norman and Louise (Bailen) Nelson in Ashland, WI.
He was a talented artist and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from UW-Superior, graduating with high honors. Gary was also a gifted Social Worker for Douglas County for 24 years before his retirement in 2003. He loved gardening (especially flowers), animals of all kind, bird watching, carpentry, and traveling the United States by car.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; one brother, Nick Nelson of Superior; two sons, Kurt (Pamela) Nelson of Poplar, WI and Leif (Amy) Nelson of Boise, ID, two daughters, Erica (Dean Lahti) Nelson of Iron River and Veronica (Sage) Seifert of Evansville, IN; six grandsons, one granddaughter; three great-granddaughters; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Colleen Aird of Duluth, MN, one sister-in-law, and three brother-in-laws.
