Frank R. Olsen died at St. Mary’s hospital on July 9, 2021 from heart disease. He was 76 years old. The funeral will be at Glen Avon Presbyterian Church on Monday, August 9 at 1:00 PM. Masks are required. Interment will be at the Glen Avon Memorial Garden following the service. Frank Ray Olsen was born November 7, 1944 to Kenneth and Louise Olsen in Orlando, FL. They moved to Duluth, MN in 1949 where Frank attended Washburn Elementary School and graduated from Hermantown High School in 1962. He was a member of the MN Air National Guard. Every friend Frank made along the way was still his friend until the day he died. He attended UMD and worked in sales his whole career. Frank and his brother, J.C., started Duluth Vinyl Roofs in the garage of their mother’s house on 21st Ave. E. and Superior St. In 1982 they moved their business to 318 E. Superior St. and they added Budget Battery.

Frank, J.C. and Janet sang together at various events around the Duluth area. They sang folk music with Frank and J.C. playing their guitars. They had their biggest event singing as an opening act for the Grand Ole Opry. They also won a talent contest in Miami Beach, FL singing in an Arthur Godfrey talent show.

Frank married Patricia Jones in 1966 and they later divorced. He married Linda Johnson in 1980. Linda’s son, Corey, was a special sparkle in Frank’s life. Corey was killed in an industrial accident in 1987. Frank’s father died in 1988. Through this difficult time, Frank and Linda divorced, but remained friends.

Frank owned many properties in Duluth and spent many hours on repairs and remodeling. He loved working on projects. When he wasn’t working or doing a project, his time was spent with his friends fishing, golfing, skiing, curling, and traveling.

Frank found the true love of his life in 2003 when he met Nancy Poldoski. They were together both in Duluth and in their home in Sun City Center, FL. They enjoyed traveling, entertaining, and watching sunsets.

Frank is survived by his life companion, Nancy, brother, J.C. (Janet), sister, Janet (Steven) Poeschl, niece, Jaime (Bill) Avenall, nephew Shad Olsen (Andy Kust), niece, Rita (Kyle) Iverson, and nephews, Timothy (Liz) Poeschl, Thomas (Natasha) Poeschl and Scott (Emily) Poeschl.

He will be dearly missed by his many friends and all who had the pleasure to know him.

Memorials can be sent to the Heart Association, The Northern Lights Foundation in Duluth or Glen Avon Presbyterian Church.
