Evelyn Marilyn (Erickson) Starr said goodbye to this physical world on April 8, 2018 in Duluth, MN just down the street from the place she’s called home for these past 11 years.

Born and raised on her family’s farm East of Cambridge on January 30, 1927, she moved from Cambridge to Hopkins, MN and back in order to attend high school and worked in a local bank until marrying James Edward Starr in 1948. Ev worked beside Jim in creating a successful business and raised 3 children Pamela, James and Katherine in Cambridge while watching over and caring for their own Parents.

Ev was active in her church and community, and proudly helped establish the Home Delivered Meals program locally. She found the keystone of her service to others to be her involvement with the American Legion Auxiliary with her focus always on ways she could help people in need, especially children. She rose through the Local, District, State (Department) and National ranks until she served as National President in 1986-87, continuing her focus of helping others.

Over and above all other activities, Ev was without reservation committed to her children, grandchildren and family. She was always there when needed and gave love and assistance without judgement or restriction. She felt a similar affinity for her friends through the years and cherished the memories and connections she had with all. We have no doubt that her love and energy will live on in our hearts and we encourage all that knew her to feel her presence.

A memorial service in Cambridge is anticipated this Summer or early Fall. We ask that any memorials be given in Evelyn’s name to The American Legion Auxiliary or Charity of your choice. Please direct inquiries to Jim & Lisa Starr via mail at 1145 Mississippi Avenue, Duluth, MN 55811, or email at infoferry@charter.net.
