In Remembrance

Emerita Valenzuela Cockrell, 68, of Hermantown, MN passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 12, 2022.

Emerita was born on March 4, 1954 in Rio Chiquito, Honduras.  She married John Cockrell on November 4, 1974 and they eventually moved to his home in the United States with their son, John Jr.  Emerita lived in many different places before settling down in Minnesota.  She made it known that she definitely preferred the tropical Caribbean climate that she grew up in over the cold and the snow, and her family always enjoyed listening to her talk about her memories of home.  In 2008, Emerita moved to Edgewood Vista in Hermantown where she was loved by so many of the staff and residents.  Her sweet, gentle spirit and her sometimes mischievous sense of humor were adored by family and friends alike.

Emerita was preceded in death by her husband, John Cockrell Sr.  She will be forever loved and deeply missed by her son John, her daughter-in-law Janelle, and her granddaughter Joely.  She will always be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother.

A private service for the family will be held at a later date.  Thank you to everyone at Edgewood Vista who took care of Emerita over the past 14 years, to the CaringEdge hospice staff for their support and compassion, and to Sheila Yates for her love and support.
