Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, at Yellowjacket Union, 1605 Catlin Ave. Superior. Services by Affordable Cremation & Burial, 218-491-7011. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Superior Amateur Hockey Association, 1015 Oakes Ave, Superior WI 54880.

David N. Smith, 69, of Superior, passed away Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at Silver Bay Veteran’s Home from complications of frontotemporal dementia.

He was born April 1, 1947, to Theodore (Ted) and Lucy (August) Smith. David grew up in Superior, with his summers spent in Lake Nebagamon, and graduated from Superior East High School and the University of Wisconsin-Superior. He earned three Purple Hearts and an Army Commendation Medal serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. David married the light of his life, Linda Priley, Dec. 14, 1968. He worked at Superior Water & Light for 30 years, retiring in 2005.

David was involved in coaching hockey and baseball in Superior, and was always involved with his children and grandchildren’s sports endeavors. He enjoyed working with his hands, and could fix almost anything. David was witty, supportive, and most of all loving to his family, he will be dearly missed.

He is preceded in death by his father Ted and father-in-law Frank Priley.

David is survived by his wife Linda; four children, Dena (RC) Boheim, Eric (Andrea) Smith, Nicholas (Christina) Smith, Andrew (Diana) Smith; 10 grandchildren, Mia, Tallie, Gigi Boheim, Kellen, Brynn, Emelia, Oliver, Stella, Anthony, Lucy Smith and the 11th grandchild on the way; mother Lucy; siblings Ted Smith, Carolyn (Hal) Hudson, Victor (Phyllis) Smith, Patricia (Doug) Daily; many nieces and nephews; in-laws Marcia (Dave) Otterson, Frank (Ann) Priley, Gloria (Jay) Smith, Julie (Jim Pierre) Davern; and mother-in-law Elena Priley.

A special thank you to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay for their outstanding care and Sarah McCumber, CNP, for her loving support.
