Dan (aka Driftwood Dan) died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family and friends, at the age of 61, in Proctor Minnesota after a 14-year battle with cancer.
Dan would like you to know that his work here is done. He has received an offer of a lifetime that he could not refuse.  A job created just for him, a permanent position for work of high significance. This position has a beautiful silver lining, an invaluable sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time.
Dan was a strong, proud and good hearted man. A patriarch who cherished spending time with his family and friends. He was passionate about his family and friends, the outdoors and adventure in that exact order, period. These memories were invaluable to him over any material possessions. He was an amazing Father, always there for his children, even before they realized they were in need of help. He was a loving grandfather who loved to spoil his grandchildren especially with love, attention and raspberries. A cherished friend, loving brother, and devoted son.  Of all the people he touched in his life willing and unwilling, his proudest achievement in life was his children.  Inside his rough and tough exterior was a warm, generous and caring man.  He touched many lives with his words of wisdom, offering guidance and seizing every opportunity to teach a life lesson. God blessed him with the ability to envision the possibilities of what could be and a beautiful strong set of talented hands that would help him create his vision. He had an eye for perfection with endless amounts of creativity.
He had a deep love for traveling and chasing adventure, spending many years checking off his bucket list. He will always be remembered for his contagious laugh, his love of being an avid fisherman and riding his Harley on a beautiful sunny day.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Suzanne Hedberg of Duluth, MN.
Dan will be missed by his children: David Hedberg of Cloquet, MN. Lia (Joe) Jauhola of Duluth, son in law Kevin Butler Albertville,MN. Grandchildren: Niko Apostolellis-Butler, Jackson Apostolellis-Butler, Sophia Jauhola, Joseph Jauhola Jr. Sisters: RaeJean (Chuck) Eisenmann of Superior, WI & Lisa (Chris) Unger of Duluth, MN. Brother: Chris (Jamie) Hedberg. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
