With deep sorrow, the family of Dale Nordwall (93) announces his passing at home on April 8, 2026. Born November 30, 1932 in Duluth to Evelyn and Stanley Nordwall, Dale grew up in Woodland and graduated from Central High School in 1951. He enrolled in Salter school to become an electrician, like his father, but was drafted into the Army to then serve 2 years in the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, Dale completed his education and apprenticeship to become a journeyman electrician. He worked at Arrowhead Electric for his 40-year career and was then a lifelong member of the IBEW Local 242. Dale was also a member of Salem Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, and as an usher, and participated in the couples club group.
Dale married the love of his life, Beverly Brown, on June 14, 1958. Together they raised four children in Piedmont Heights. Dale retired in 1991, but never stopped working. He built a home on White Lake where his parents had a small cabin. Dale and Bev spent winters in Lakeland, Florida for 30 years, where Dale volunteered as head of maintenance at the Sun and Fun Airport. Dale and Bev spent summers at their beloved White Lake home. They enjoyed the lake often, even after relocating to Duluth in 2025.
Always adventurous and curious, Dale had a passion for building, creating, and “fixing things”. His great passion, however, was flying. Dale loved to fly his Cessna and also built an experimental aircraft which he successfully flew. He kept active with projects that included building and always improving the lake home, restoring an old boat into a family treasure, and fashioning the family’s much-used camper. Dale was known for his “fixer” lifestyle that brought him so much joy. As he said, “I can fix anything, except a broken heart”.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Stanley Nordwall; grandson, Mateo Tori; and brother-in-law, Peter McKenna. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bev; children, Stan (Tammy), Kris (Jess) Peterson, Jody, and Todd (Coleen); grandchildren, RaeAnn, Jamie, Jake, Carly, Dane, Aerika, Elena, Dani, Tyler, and Heather; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Linda McKenna; brother-in-law, Lee (Gwen) Brown; sister-in-law, Kathy (David) Okonek, nieces and nephews and countless friends.
