Charles Donald Mattson, 88, passed away peacefully Monday evening August 22, 2016 after a short stay at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation in South Range, Wisconsin. He was born May 11, 1928 and lived most of his life in Maple.
Charles was a veteran of the Korean War. He served in the Air Force in the military police from 1948 through 1953. Charles spent most of his working years as a member of the engine room crew on large ships. He started sailing on the Great Lakes in 1944 at the age of sixteen. He retired in 1990.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Frances, who died June 26, 1987.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann (Ron) Learn, Oliver, WI; three sons, Thomas, Superior, WI; Paul (Annette), Bedford, TX; John (Kay), Lake Nebagamon, WI; a brother, Melvin (Alice), Superior, WI; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his best friend, Audrey O’Donnell, Virginia, MN.
