In Remembrance

Alice “AJ” Whitby, 91, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Viewcrest Health Center in Duluth. She was born April 2, 1925 to Harold and Carrie (Morrow) Williams in Duluth.

Alice graduated from Duluth Central High School, class of ’43, and attended Business School. Alice worked for over 20 years as an administrative secretary for the Vice Chancellor of academic administration at UMD, after raising her children as a homemaker. She volunteered at Salvation Army, MN Special Olympics, and the First United Methodist Church Ladies Circle.

Alice enjoyed playing cards with friends, she was an excellent cook, and loved spending time with family and friends at the cabin on Comstock Lake that she and Don built.

She is preceded in death by; her parents, and brother Robert J. Williams.

Alice is survived by; loving husband of over 67 years, Donald; two children, Jane (Bob) Mayne of Savage, MN, Dale (Cathy) Whitby of Superior, WI; grandchildren Chad (Cheryl) Mayne, Jason Mayne, Patti Mayne, Sara (Adam) Rivet, Keith (Amy) Whitby, Kevin (Sandy) Whitby, Kate Whitby; great-grandchildren, Stephen Troje, Greg (Liz) Troje, BriAnne Troje, Zach Mayne, Abby, Hannah, Seth, and Maisie Whitby, great-great-grandchildren, Savannah and Connor Troje; sisters-in-law Joy Williams, Dee Gilmore; and special friend Millie Nimmo.

A special “Thank You” to Viewcrest and Essentia Hospice for their compassionate care.

Memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Friday, January 13, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, Duluth MN. There will be a visitation one hour prior, memorials are preferred to the FUMC foundation. Services by Affordable Cremation & Burial.
