Service Date March 21, 2025
Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 21 beginning with a visitation at 11:30 am and a service at 12:30 pm at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2310 E 4th St, Duluth, followed by a 2:45 pm Military Committal and interment at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, 4777 US-53, Saginaw. A gathering to remember Bill and share stories will be held at Bent Paddle, 1832 W Michigan St, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lyric Opera of the North (LOON) in memory of Bill’s commitment to the arts.
William “Bill” A.S. Taylor, aged 80, passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2025, in Duluth, MN.
Born on February 4, 1945, Bill graduated from Omaha Central High School and received a bachelor’s in political science at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
Bill proudly served in the United States Army and the Army Reserve, dedicating 19 years to his country in Military Intelligence. He earned the Bronze Star, as well as numerous commendations and awards for actions in the Vietnam conflict as well as in peacetime before retiring with the rank of Major. After his military service, he embarked on careers with Northwestern Bell and AT&T, then slowly settled into the retirement joys of doing anything he wanted to.
A passionate supporter of the local arts, Bill was deeply involved with Lyric Opera of the North (LOON). He and his wife were a Host Family for 12 years to many players of the Duluth Huskies baseball team, contributing significantly to the local sports community. Autosports was another of his passions, and Bill spent many hours in organizational support for clubs and events large and small. With his life experience and sense of warmth and self-deprecating humor, he was the person you wanted to sit next to.
Bill is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Peterson) Taylor; son, Allen Taylor; daughter-in-law, Patricia Clancy; and grandsons, Ryan and Christopher Taylor, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur “Shep” Taylor; mother, Jeanne (Biurvall) Moore; stepfather, James Moore; and daughter, Dana Taylor.
