April 9, 1941 - March 2, 2025
Service Date March 29, 2025
A gathering to celebrate Glenda’s life will be 1 pm, March 29th, 2025 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard in Duluth, MN. Visitation at 12pm, a private family burial will be held this summer.
Glenda Kathrine (Almly) Viche decided it was time to go visit our dad on March 2, 2025. After a series of health events, she passed peacefully in her apartment with family by her side.
Glenda was a tomboy as a child. There was not a rock she didn’t climb, nor a puddle she didn’t jump in. She played in creeks and even assisted in winning a soap box derby, she was always excited to tell you about it. She proudly passed these traits on to her 3 children.
She graduated from the all-girl Catholic high school, Stanbrook Hall, Duluth, MN in 1959 and went on to further her education at St. Mary’s in the Radiology Training Program. She was an X-Ray Tech from 1962-1974. She worked in the Duluth School District as a Health Assistant and Special Education Para from 1985 until her retirement in 1998. She would tell you it was her greatest joy to learn from “her kids.”
Glenda married the man she met on a blind-date; she and George Joseph Viche, were married on June 10, 1961. She is survived by their three children: Paul (Leigh Ann) Viché , Timothy Viché , and Margo (Pete Jouppi) Viche. 3 grandchildren: Kaleigh (Robert Fensterman) Viché-Fensterman, Rieger (Connie Lovera) Viché, and Trevor Jouppi; plus her bonus grand and great grandchildren whom she lovingly treated as her own: Alex (Alee Milinkovich-Gray) Jouppi and their daughter Aubree Jouppi, Austin (Emma Huelsnitz) and their daughter McKinley Jouppi. Kyle Jouppi and his children, Sophia Jirik-Jouppi and Leland Johnson. She is also survived by her sister, Mary (Paul Tynjala) Almly, and cousin, Cindy (Jeff) Storlie all of Duluth, MN. Plus many other cousins whom she grew up with closely. She leaves behind 4 Nephews, Christopher Viche, Lee Erickson, Eric (Yenni) Almly, and Kyle Erickson. A niece, Casey (Chris) Mattson. 3 Great Nephews: Trenton Viche, Chase Viche, and Zachary Mattson; and 2 Great Nieces: Lacey Viche and Dianna Almly. She also leaves behind her best friend and partner in shenanigans of over 50 years, Patti Anderson, and her dear friend Char Jacquart and family. Glenda was Godmother to Jamie Jacquart.
Glenda was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, George. Her parents Glen and Lenore Almly, her in-laws, George and Margaret Viche, a sister, Diane (Almly) Erickson, a brother, David Almly, a nephew, Lance Viche, and her Godson, Joel Johnson. Also preceding her was her very special life companion of 19 years, Sperling Pommerville of Arvada, CO.
As a family, we would like to thank the staff at St Luke’s and especially the infusion clinic whom have taken care of our mom over the years. We would also like to thank the staff at Ecumen Lakeshore Rehab for their outstanding care during her multiple stays with them and The Shores, her residence for her final years for their exceptional care and compassion. She was an avid member of the butterfly club at The Shores, it brought her pure joy to raise and release them in the gardens outside.
