ELAINE MARIE GRANHOLM
Elaine Marie Granholm, 82, of Carlton, died May 12, 2025 at Inter-faith Care Center in Carlton.
She was born in Cook, Minn. on November 7, 1942 to Colburn and Josephine (Lorbiecki)
Christensen. Elaine grew up in Gheen, Minn. and graduated valedictorian from Orr High School
in 1960.
Elaine was married to Alfred L. Granholm on Oct. 12, 1963. They were together more than 50
years when Al died in 2014. She and Al began married life in Cloquet, but soon moved to Esko
where they lived until displaced by the construction of Interstate 35. This prompted another
move to Carlton where they raised their family, built a home, and spent most of their remaining
years.
Elaine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver. She retired from Potlatch in
2000 after more than 25 years as a research technician. Warm and outgoing, Elaine enjoyed
talking with people wherever she encountered them. Throughout her life she maintained an
affection for the people and places where she grew up.
She was preceded in death by her husband Al, siblings: Bernice Christensen, Dorothy Jackson,
Agnes Benko and Phillip Christensen. She is survived by her brother Daniel (Debra); children
Mark (Michelle), Dean (Cara), and Diane; six grandchildren: Thomas, Peter, Andrew, Dylan,
Kimberly, and Lily; great granddaughter, Emma; and many nieces and nephews.
