A memorial service will be held on May 28, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with full military honors at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, 4777 Hwy. 53, Saginaw, MN 55779. Please join us after for celebration of life and luncheon at 1501 Anderson Rd., Duluth, MN 55811. (Casual dress code).
Earl Jerry Decker took his last breath on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Essentia Health surrounded by his wife and four children, after being a survivor of cancer for over twenty years.
Born in Los Angeles, California on March 26, 1944 moving to Colorado at an early age. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Denver, Colorado 1964.
Drafted to the Vietnam war in 1968 where he served for one year, eight months as an airplane repairman, receiving various medals.
He worked many jobs throughout the years such as Carl’s Restaurant, Diamond’s Tool, and maintenance for St. Louis County.
He enjoyed fishing, swimming, days at the lake, playing chess, gardening, reading, and jamming to his record player.
In 1974 he married Darlene Prescott with whom he had his first son Ronald Decker.
Five years later, Earl moved from Colorado to Minnesota, and met Katherine Hallfrisch, with whom he shared 42 years of marital bliss, they married on June 27,1981.
Jerry was always a family man, always putting friends and family first and making sure everyone felt included and exhibiting generosity to everyone he met. Attending the various sporting events of all of his children.
He is preceded in death by; his parents, Helen and Earl Decker,
Survived by; his sister, Cherry “DD” Edelen, his wife, Katherine Decker, his four children, Ron and Monica Decker, Danielle “Decker” and Danny Peterson, Trisha Decker and Brian, Matthew Decker and Yana, his four grandchildren, Xavier, Aubrey, Nevaeh, and Adelie.
