Dorothy L Makitalo
December 20, 1962 - May 21, 2025
Dorothy Makitalo, age 62, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, May 21,
2025, surrounded by her family. She was a hard worker and a friendly, welcoming soul.
Everyone who knew her loved her—so much so that she often made them honorary
members of the family.
Dorothy graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1981. Shortly after, she began
working in the laundry room at the Harbor Inn, where her mother was her supervisor. Later
in life, she attended Lake Superior College, earning an Associate of Arts degree in
Administrative Business, with a secondary focus in Medical Administration. She went on to
work at ServiceMaster as an administrative assistant in the office.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dorothy Pfeiffer, and her sister,
Veronica Blair.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Dale; her son, Dale Jr.; her daughter, Rachael; and her
sisters: Kathleen (Dale) Kilby, Margaret “Maggie” (Jerry) Alander, Nancy (Steve) Thibault,
and Debra (Steve) Rautio. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
