In Remembrance

David Guy Stookey was born on November 29, 1955, in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away on October 22, 2025, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota. 

David is survived by his loving longtime companion Cherra June-Lopez of Tonalea, Arizona, his cherished children, Andrew Anthony June Lopez, stationed in Hawaii, and Arhiana Aidan June Lopez of Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota. He is further survived by his mother, Bonnie Stookey of Aurora, Minnesota, his sister Carol (Frank), and his three brothers, Steven, Tom, and Joe (Jeannie). He was preceded in death by his beloved son Austin Adrian June Lopez, his father Guy Stookey, his brother Chip, and his sisters-in-law, Vicki and Mary Stookey. 

David graduated from East High School, Des Moines. He found joy in life from raising his children and loved them dearly. David sought new connections with people and experiences; because of this, he became a world traveler. He backpacked through Alaska and the Grand Canyon and sought fulfillment through assisting with the cleanup after Katrina. He worked in hospitality and enjoyed cooking very much. David loved great food and relished the enjoyment of serving his creations to loved ones. He lived in numerous states in the southern part of the U.S. and didn’t settle down until his children came into his life.

David was a kind, loving, and caring person who was destined to be a father of three. He was very protective and would do anything for his family. He will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held at

the Hoyt Lakes Senior Center,  at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday November 15th. All are welcome.
