Oliver Houx Obituary Oliver “Ollie” Marshall Houx was born on January 14, 1939 to Marshall and Dorothy Houx in Manhattan, New York. He passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2024 at the Open Arms Senior Living Facility. Oliver was raised in Rye, New York and attended Rye Milton Elementary School, Phillips Academy in Andover, MA and graduated from Yale University in New Haven, CT. He joined the Air Force to see the world and was sent to Duluth as a Second Lieutenant in the Administrative Support Squadron at the Duluth Air Base. He loved the area and Lake Superior and remained in Duluth, later working for the personnel department for the City of Duluth and retired from Minnesota Power. He was an active member and former president of the Duluth Chapter of the American Association of Training and Development. Oliver enjoyed music, singing, playing the organ and piano, and composing music. He loved traveling, and visited and listened to organ music in several European Countries and ancient bell “organs” in China. He was very moved by the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany. He also enjoyed many trips to Disney with his family. Oliver was a Mason and longtime member of the Palestine Lodge and a former director of the Shrine Chanters. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, a choir member and a substitute organ player. He was a proud member of AA for over 40 years. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Mary, brother in-law Ronald, stepdaughter Debra Lucas, step-son Anthony Kling and beloved dog Sammy. Oliver is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, brother John (Anne), his son Paul (Lisa), step-son Michael (Robin), step-son Ken (Barb) and step-daughter Amber. Grandchildren Strider, Trooper, Erin, Ryan, Mychal, Leah, Macy and great grandchildren Ellie, Emily and Layne, sister in-law, Fran Kling, and nieces and nephews. Services for Oliver will be held on November 4th at 11:00 am with visitation at 10:30 at First United Methodist Church in Duluth, Mn. |
