Kent Schul died peacefully at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN on June 11th, 2024, surrounded with love. Kent was born on December 18, 1948, to Annabelle and George Schul. He graduated from Cloquet High School in 1966 and served honorably in the US Air Force for four years. He was married to Michelle LeBeau from 1980-2011 and together they raised their children – Zoe, Waylon, and Zach. Kent dedicated 27 years of his career to Builder’s Commonwealth, where he was renowned for his exceptional woodworking craftsmanship. He later worked with Women in Construction for 8 years and then founded K2 Construction with his brother-in-law, Kurt Askelin. Even after retiring, Kent continued to build for his family and friends, leaving a lasting impact through his skills and generosity. In the 90s, Kent volunteered co-facilitating a Men’s Nonviolence group at the Domestic Abuse Intervention Programs (DAIP). He was also a member of Men as Peacemakers where he was involved in various social justice initiatives including mentoring men to challenge patriarchal beliefs about masculinity, involved in the Martin Luther king and Take Back the Night marches, and was a mentor/reader to youth at the elementary school level. Kent was also a member of the National Organization for Men Against Sexism. Known as a social butterfly, Kent was always willing to lend a helping hand without expecting anything in return. He was a mentor, friend, father, brother, and inspiration to many, always eager to learn, explore new adventures, and support his loved ones. His devotion to his children and grandchildren was unmatched, and he leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories. Kent had a deep love for music (he was a scenester where everyone knew his name), dancing (his dance card was always full), duck hunting with Mike Uphus in Montana (his beloved retreat where he requested his ashes be released), hunting for agates (he was an avid rock-licker), and most of all, spending time with his friends and family. Above all else, he treasured the relationships he nurtured throughout his life. Kent was preceded in death by his parents Annabelle and George. He is survived by his brothers Kurt (Kim) and Dale (Janet); his children Zoe LeBeau, Waylon LeBeau, and Zach Schul (Kim Nordin); his grandchildren Trysten Wenneson and Stone Schul; numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of dear friends and relatives. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Kent’s close friends, Terry McCarthy, Joan Sargent, and Joel Carlson, for their unwavering support during Kent’s last six months. Kent Schul will be remembered for his boundless generosity, infectious joy for life, and the enduring impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him. |
