James Merl Carlson passed away in the hospital on March 28, 2024, with his wife of 27 years by his side. Jim fell three months ago and hit his head which resulted in brain bleeds. Despite all the measures the doctors took, in the end Jim’s brain suffered irreparable damage and sadly left him with static encephalopathy. Jim worked for DWP Railroad for 17 years. He also bartended at many establishments in the area and worked in construction until retiring in 2007. Jim was an avid hunter/fisherman and enjoyed golfing. Jim LOVED to read! He had countless books. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ricky Carlson and sister, Kelly Carlson. Jim is survived by his wife, Beverly, brother, Jerry (Jill) Carlson, sister Beth (Richard) Carlson, daughters, Tracy Owens, Amy (Nathan) Reeves and, both of Oregon. Stepchildren, David Warner and Amy Potts, both of Duluth. Jim also had many grandchildren, one great granddaughter and countless nieces and nephews. Jim requested no memorial service. A private burial service will be held later this summer at Forest Hill Cemetery. Jim’s family would like to say thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Essentia Health for the care given to Jim over the last several months. |
