Neill John Granquist was born July 17, 1973, in Duluth, Minnesota to Theodore and Ellen Granquist. From the time he was born, Ted and Ellen taught Neill about Jehovah God from the Bible. At 14, Neill made the personal decision to symbolize his love and dedication to Jehovah God through water baptism on July 25, 1987. Although an only child, Neill had many cousins he enjoyed spending time with as he grew up. Throughout Neill’s life, he developed a deep love for Jehovah’s gift of creation; he treasured spending time outside with family, friends, and animals. Many have fond memories of fishing and watching football with Neill, especially the Green Bay Packers. In 1991, shortly after he graduated from Superior High School, Neill began regular pioneering. He later enjoyed the privilege of serving at The Branch office of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Patterson, New York. After Neill came home, he continued to help his parents and support them when needed. In November of 2011, the hope of the resurrection took on an even greater meaning to Neill when he lost his mother, Ellen, in death. He found strength from the words in John 5:28, 29. There, we read: “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out those who did good things to a resurrection of life.” After Ted suffered a stroke, Neill became his father’s main caregiver. Despite his personal challenges, Neill continued to show his love for his spiritual family; time and again, Neill helped those who were ill and discouraged. He shared his love of Jehovah with young ones in the Kingdom Hall and enjoyed getting to introduce them to Caleb and Sophia. In July 2022, Neill was admitted to St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota. There, he learned of the serious nature of his illness. While in the hospital, Neill often talked about his hope for the future; he happily looked forward to the time when sickness, pain, and death would be done away with, and we could enjoy life as Jehovah intended it to be. Through it all, Neill’s love for and faith in Jehovah God and the Bible never dimmed. No matter how weak his illness made him, he avidly listened to the prayers offered on his behalf, always giving a resounding “Amen.” On Thursday, September 22, 2022, Neill passed away at the age of 49. We look forward to the time when we will be reunited with Neill and his mother, Ellen, in the beautiful paradise earth we know is just around the corner. Neill was extremely grateful for the care that he received from his kind and dedicated doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, and all of the hospital staff at St. Luke’s. His family and friends echo Neill’s gratitude. A memorial service is planned for Neill on Sunday October 9, 2022 at the Superior Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
