Arnold W. “Jake” Jacobson passed away on January 23, 2026, in Duluth, Minnesota, at the age of 93. Born on February 8, 1932, in St. Louis County, Minnesota, Jake was a lifelong Minnesotan who graduated from Duluth Central High School. After high school, he served for a short time in the U.S. Army National Guard, demonstrating his commitment to service early in life. Jake and his beloved wife Mary built a life together centered around family and hard work. Together they owned and operated Jake’s Quality Tire for many years. Known for his exceptional memory and deep knowledge of tires—especially those used in logging, farming, semi-trucks, and passenger vehicles—Jake was a gifted salesperson who earned the trust and friendship of countless customers over the decades. His ability to recall names and numbers made him a standout in his field. The business became more than just a livelihood; it was a community hub where long-lasting friendships were formed. After Jake and Mary retired, their son Mark continued the legacy by taking over the business and maintaining its strong reputation. He is lovingly remembered by his three children: Beth Westman; Mark Jacobson (Susan Campbell); and Marjorie Jackson (Michael). He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Becky Cusick; Brian Jackson (Chelsea); and Tom Jackson; as well as three great-grandchildren: Ella Jackson, Lila Jackson, and Mark Jackson. Jake was preceded in death by his cherished wife Mary Jacobson; his parents Arnold and Viola Jacobson; his sister Karen Poppenberg; and his granddaughter Amy Jacobson. An avid outdoorsman, Jake found joy in nature throughout all seasons. The family spent many treasured years at their cabin on Island Lake where hunting, fishing, boating, and snowmobiling were favorite pastimes. His love for adventure took him across state lines to pursue hunting trips and snowmobile excursions. Travel was another passion that Jake shared with Mary. They explored many parts of the country together but held a special fondness for Maui, where they owned a condo for several years. Whale watching there brought them particular delight. Las Vegas also remained one of their favorite destinations over the years. Closer to home, attending the Minnesota State Fair became an annual tradition that they continued to enjoy even into their later years. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Pines Mt. Royal Center—especially Amy, Shane, Denise—and so many others whose kindness and patience meant so much during Jake’s time there. Special thanks are also given to the Hospice staff from Essentia Health for their compassionate care. At Jake’s request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jake’s name to Animal Allies Humane Society in Duluth. | |
