Warren Dwayne Roberts passed away after a brief illness at Aspirus St. Luke’s Hospital on January 21, 2026 with his family by his side. He was born September 19, 1949 in Duluth, and after graduating from Duluth Central High School in 1968, he joined the U.S. Navy. Following his service, he returned to Duluth, where he was a jack-of-all-trades, working in a wide range of active roles including gas station operator, car mechanic, construction worker, heavy equipment operator, scuba diver, township public works leader, dump truck owner/operator, and more. Warren seldom sat still. When not working, he loved tackling projects and socializing in his garage, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, snowmobiling, skiing, caring for his home and yard, and helping family and friends. In 1991, Warren suffered a tragic snowmobile accident that resulted in a severe head injury and blindness. While Warren’s world became smaller, his spirit did not. He continued to enjoy life as fully as possible over the next 35 years. Warren especially cherished time at the hunting shack during deer season, visits with family and friends, even if just to say “hi”, and was always happy to share a cup of coffee and a snack. His quick wit, curiosity about many things, and genuine concern for others remained strong throughout his life. Warren was so proud to be one of the ten Roberts kids. Growing up in such a large, lively family shaped his sense of humor, strength, and deep loyalty. After his injury, that same big-hearted family became an unwavering source of strength and support for him and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Burnadette (Blesener) Roberts. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, who lovingly cared for him and stood by his side with remarkable strength and devotion; his daughters, Robin (Mark) Sawyer and Toni (Chris Bergman); his grandchildren, Henry and Samantha Sawyer and Allie and Macie Bergman; his siblings, Joe (Sandy) Roberts, Terry (Gail) Roberts, Pat (Bob) Malkovich, Marvin (Julie) Roberts, Bill (Lori) Roberts, Brian (Patty) Roberts, Bernie (Rich) Ozan, Kevin (Lori) Roberts and Nadine (Roger) Johnson; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A special thank you to Open Arms Senior Living and Heritage Haven for their steadfast compassion and care of Warren over the past 10 years. A service will be held Saturday, March 21 at 10:00am at Concordia Lutheran Church, 2501 Woodland Ave, Duluth, MN 55803, followed by a dessert reception. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Concordia Lutheran Church or to Minnesota State Services for the Blind. https://give.mn/ppcn3g | |
