Thomas M Elwell

Thomas Michael Elwell of East Fifth Street passed into the afterlife with a smile on his face on September 18th, 2025.

Tom was born on December 30, 1948 in Hibbing, Minnesota, son of Victor Elwell and Amalia (Molly) Sartori Elwell. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism. Tom retired from the Duluth Transit Authority in 2013 as Director of Marketing after 28 years of service. He was previously employed at Butler Taconite and National Steel on the Iron Range, where he worked a variety of jobs; primarily in the engineering survey and blasting department.

Tom is survived by his wife Lynette Marie (Wilkins), daughters Joanna Johnson (Bradley) of Wasilla, Alaska; Julie Larson of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Jacquelyn Elwell (Jay Hollen) of French River Township in Duluth, Minnesota; and son Andrew Elwell (Alyssa Dudek) of Los Angeles, California; along with six grandchildren: Jasmine Eggen (Lewis) of Austin, Texas; Isaiah Larson of Rochester, Minnesota; Jayden, Levi and Leila Larson of St. Cloud, Minnesota; grandson Samuel Johnson in Wasilla, Alaska; and former son-in-law, Jeffery Larson of St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Tom is also survived by his brother James A. Elwell, sister-in-law Jody Elwell of Duluth, sister-in-law Carol Wilkins of Chester, England; nieces Carmen Elwell of Bloomington, Minnesota and Lauren Elwell of Duluth, Minnesota; Abbey Wilkins (Coley) of Florida and her four children; Leahcim, Wakan, Yosef and Aureos; Meghan Wilkins (Christopher) and son Renae of Ojai, California; nephew Sam Wilkins (Julie) of Knoxville, Tennessee and their daughter Ella Cox of Knoxville; nephew Benedict Wilkins (Beth) and three sons, Bodhi, Kieran and Nikolai. The Ben and Beth Wilkins family reside in Gorham, Maine.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Melde and Katherine Elwell; mother-in-law Viola Wilkins, father-in-law LeRoy Wilkins, and brothers-in-law James and Bruce Wilkins.
