Carolyn Esther (Simonson) Blomquist, of Duluth, MN, reached her heavenly goal on July 20, 2025. Born in Duluth on December 6, 1950, to John and Evelyn Simonson, Carolyn spent nearly her entire life in the Duluth area, with brief stays in the Twin Cities and Newark, DE. The second of ten children, Carolyn grew up in a loving home in the Lakeside neighborhood, later moving to Lakewood. Raised in the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, she remained a lifelong member. Carolyn attended Lakeside, Lester Park, and Lakewood elementary schools, Washington Junior High, and graduated from Central High School in 1969. In 1972, the sudden passing of her father deeply affected her and brought her already close-knit family even closer. In 1973, Carolyn married Charles Blomquist of Northeast, MD. She had always dreamed of a large family, and was blessed with three children, whom she cherished and nurtured with unwavering devotion. After raising her children, Carolyn worked in various positions, spending the last 20 years at Essentia Health as a registrar—a position she loved. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, wife, friend, and a simple Christian who lived her faith quietly and sincerely. Carolyn passed away with a firm belief that Jesus died for her sins, a faith that guided her life and brought her peace. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Evelyn; her granddaughters, Effie Blomquist and Nina Blomquist; and many beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Charles; her daughter, Theresa Sarkinen; her sons, Daniel (Kristin) Blomquist and Nathan (Kristy) Blomquist; and her siblings, Sandy (Mike) Dobrava, Linda (Robert) Hiivala, Judy (Dennis) Stolp, Michael (Bonnie) Simonson, Daniel (Darci) Simonson, Steven (Judy) Simonson, Karen (John) Bruckelmyer, Paul (Mayme) Simonson, and Lori (Calvin) Raisanen. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and countless friends. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 23, from 7:00–8:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on Thursday, July 24, at 11:00 AM at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Woodland Park, 3730 Martin Rd, Duluth, MN.
